ChemCareers 2020: Apprenticeships

11 March 2020 12:30-13:30, United Kingdom

Introduction
Hear from training providers, Manchester Metropolitan University and CSR Group as well as chemistry employers, LGC and AstraZeneca about the benefits of apprenticeships and how they contribute to their businesses.

Apprenticeships have become increasingly popular in science since the introduction of the apprenticeship levy in 2016. Employers are realising that apprenticeships benefit their business because they can develop individuals who are highly-skilled and meet the specific skills requirements of their role, business or industry. Apprentices also contribute to the business as they work whilst completing their training and they can also be used as a cost-effective way of upskilling existing staff to meet business and recruitment needs.

Apprenticeships are also shown to boost staff productivity, business competitiveness and employee engagement and retention thereby reducing recruitment costs. Support is available from the UK government, training providers and the ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥appÏÂÔØ to help with the costs of training apprentices.

Panel:
Rachel James, Business Development Manager (Apprenticeships), Manchester Metropolitan University
Danny Ho, Director of Operations, CSR Group
Fiona Hirst, HR Manager, LGC
Kim Hardman, UK Apprenticeships Lead, AstraZeneca

Sarah, Careers Executive, ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥appÏÂÔØ (chair)
