YoungChemist is an award created to acknowledge academic excellence and the promotion of chemistry among young people in Kent. It offers students a platform to showcase their understanding of chemistry while encouraging the use of creativity and the latest technology. ELIGIBILITY YoungChemist is open to secondary school students aged 16-18 and based in Kent who are passionate about chemistry and their chemistry education. To be eligible, students must be enrolled at a school in Kent and be nominated by their teacher, with each school allowed to submit only one nomination. Students should register with their teacher while enrolled on their Chemistry A-Level, AS course, IB program, BTEC and T-Level or Level 3 qualification. REQUIREMENTS The YoungChemist Award is based on a teacher's recommendation and should include at least one of the following: 鈼 Conduct a non-core practical: Describe the experiment and create a resource for teaching, preferably including a video or infographic; 鈼 Submit a history of chemistry research: Highlight the contributions of a chemist in their local community through research. This can be presented as a PPT or recorded video, focusing on role models, especially female or local chemists from BAME groups; 鈼 Organize a STEM school event related to chemistry (such as an in-house competition, poster challenge, presentations, or talks) and document it with a video or blog; 鈼 Mentoring students at school and evidence the impact; 鈼 Create or maintain a website or blog, or produce video clips related to chemistry within their community. Nominations will be reviewed by a subcommittee of professionals from the RSC Kent Local section, comprising members from universities, industry, and education. The YoungChemist Award includes a gold, silver, or bronze certificate, a prize of 拢100, 拢75, or 拢50, and the publication of their name and entries on the RSC Kent Section website, and other RSC publications.
