For providing unique insights into molecular mobility in microporous materials across industrial and emerging applications by pioneering the integration of neutron scattering and atomistic modelling within porous-materials research.
Alex completed his PhD at UCL, based at the UK Catalysis Hub and part-funded by the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, where he studied hydrocarbon dynamics in industrial microporous catalysts using neutron scattering and molecular modelling. He then undertook postdoctoral research at Cardiff University on biomass conversion catalysis, followed by a Ramsay Memorial Fellowship investigating diffusion in NOx abatement zeolite catalysts in collaboration with Johnson Matthey. In 2018, he was awarded a Whorrod Fellowship in Sustainable Chemical Technologies at the University of Bath, where he established his research focused on understanding molecular behaviour related to adsorption and diffusion in microporous materials across multiple length scales, using combined experimental and modelling approaches. He is now Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Department of Chemistry at Bath, leading a research group combining spectroscopy and atomistic modelling to study molecular behaviour in porous materials for applications in catalysis, controlled drug release, and water decontamination.
He plays an active role in the porous materials community, co-leading the EPSRC National Network 'Engineering Porous Materials at Multiple Scales' (EPoMM) and helping to run the British Zeolite Association.
